With mental health problems affecting ever-increasing numbers of people, there is an economic and moral need for psychotherapy to be as effective as possible.

What an inspirational, motivating online brief psychotherapy course!

Why take this course

CPD Provider LogoBrief solution-focused therapy has been found (in a meta-analysis of hundreds of efficacy studies) to be far more effective in treating anxiety disorders, depression, phobias, trauma and addiction, than any form of therapy that assumes treatment needs to be long-term.

But not all brief psychotherapeutic approaches are the same – some are more effective than others.

On his hugely informative online brief psychotherapy course, Ivan Tyrrell distils the essential components you need to make your psychotherapeutic interventions as quick, reliably effective and long-lasting as possible. He clearly demonstrates how, by combining proven psychotherapeutic skills with new insights and techniques derived from the human givens approach (such as how to work more in tune with the brain by using the APET™ model), we can help distressed individuals and families even more effectively.

The result is a powerful integrative, bio-psycho-social approach that allows you to work flexibly with each client’s situation – helping them to recover their lives as quickly as possible – and empowering them with new knowledge and skills that will build resilience against future setbacks.

Anyone working in the welfare and caring professions can safely introduce these new strategies and concepts into their work – you will also gain a richer knowledge of why so many people have mental and emotional problems.

It's impressive how much can be achieved in one session.

Course format

‘Effective Brief Psychotherapy’ is based on our one-day seminar of the same name. This online course is split into 4 modules, each of which are broken down further into different sections containing filmed lectures given in English by the tutor, Ivan Tyrrell.

Each film clip is followed by a short series of multiple choice questions. These are designed to help you think about and absorb the course content and to check that you have understood the main points of that section before proceeding to the next.

There are also course notes for you to download, plus additional reading information and helpful links.

You can take as long as you like to work your way through the course and can view it as many times as you like.

Once you have completed the course, you will receive an Accredited CPD certificate, which counts towards the Human Givens Diploma.

  1. Rhys, Welfare & Well-Being Officer

I enjoyed this course and found myself eager to progress through the sections! The HG approach makes sense in addressing our emotional health and instinctual nature, which I have found has been a missing context in previous study. The method of the approach — referring to innate human needs and drawing on innate resources — is very encouraging compared to the lengthy processes (after lengthier waiting lists) I am used to hearing of, and the skills and techniques shared in the course seem to demonstrate that well. It has been useful and interesting food-for-thought in considering how to more effectively support my further education learners! The structure and delivery of the course has been useful, via a recorded seminar in multiple parts, split further into various topics, making it easy to follow at my own pace, alongside my duties and calendar. This was welcome compared to other recent training elsewhere, which locks you into particular sections before you can progress, even without pause functions. A short quiz at the end of each section helps to recall information in detail. A few more brief interactive parts may help as more dynamic suggested alternative to videos clips, but overall I enjoyed the freedom of the course.

  2. Felicity

Very useful, helpful and inspiring training. It complimented the How to Make Counselling More Effective course very well, going over some of the same material but in a different way which added to the richness and greater completeness of the overall learning . Looking forward to going on to the next one now!

  3. Marta, Mindfulness Based Clinical-Hypnotherapy Practitioner

I have enjoyed the course. It’s very informative, well presented and inspiring. Thank you for the ideas presented in the course.

  4. Anita Malster, Training Consultant

I love the HG approach but have to say I’ve been put off by the delivery of the material by Ivan Tyrrell. I found his approach to be quite crass and ignorant at times. Unfortunately, it’s made me question whether I can get on board with the training.

  9. Dawn

This was a real delight. Mr Tyrell is such a good storyteller and such a wit! He had me in stitches most of the time. This was not your normal everyday studying. This was real fun with loads of learning along the way. Excellent. Brilliance without effort.

  10. Elaine

My first course with Ivan…. he has a great sense of humour, and delivers his content with ease making learning enjoyable. The course content is incredibly useful, insightful and easy to understand.

  11. Sarah

Excellent online course. Really helps the way it is structured – broken down into sections with multiple choice questions after each one. The clips with real patients really help bring it to life and helps you make sense of, and retain, the different HG’s strategies. It’s also so useful that you can revisit the online courses and get to grips fully with the material.

  12. Jane

I had experience HG therapy before making the decision to go this route. I had experienced other therapies over my life and this course was a gift in the sense that all of the perspectives i held are summed up in this one day. Ivan is a good presenter and interesting to listen to, demonstrating a humility and authenticity to the subject.

  13. Doreen

Loads of interesting and useful content. Well presented.

  14. Joanna

    Good

  15. Lisa

Good to learn about a method that is so positive. And how to achieve appropriate results in a short space of time.

  16. Ellen

I appreciated the honesty and simplicity of the methods used. I gained a lot
